  4. The Japan Foundation - A web site connecting people around the globe

The Japan Foundation was established in October 1972 as a special legal entity under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to serve as Japan's first international cultural-exchange organization. During the ensuing twenty-some years, it has extended efforts toward promotion of overseas understanding of Japan and understanding of other cultures by the people of Japan for the purpose of building a rich international society.

In the context of today's information-intensive society, communication that goes beyond international boundaries is being carried out actively on the internet, and the Japan Foundation has created an original Web site in both English and Japanese in order to provide general access to information that has been obtained through its own experience up to this time and its individual network considered useful in international cultural exchange.

The Foundation intends to continue making efforts toward improving of this site in order to respond to the various demands that will come up in the future. We sincerely hope that you will find the Japan Foundation Web Site useful.
