 AN
interest in the police service and a will to help the
community have led two western suburbs residents to join
Indooroopilly Police Station.
Laura Duggan, 54, and Nikki Shannon, 19, are not sworn in
police officers but rather Volunteers in Policing (VIP)
 Mrs
Duggan and Ms Shannon are the first volunteers to join the
station.
The VIP program allows community members to support police
officers in carrying out their duties.
 The
duties include victim support, witness support, community
liaison, school support and customer service.
 Mrs
Duggan said she saw the program advertised and decided to
apply.
 "I
value and respect the work done by the police service," she
said.
 An
ambition to join the Police Service led Ms Shannon to join
the program.
